Outdoor Balm FAQs
-
Our balm is a 100% natural, water-free barrier stick crafted with native New Zealand kānuka-infused oil and non-nano mineral zinc oxide. Unlike chemical sunscreens that absorb into the bloodstream, our physical mineral barrier sits safely on top of your baby’s skin to reflect the elements. It contains zero artificial fragrances, preservatives, or essential oils.

Yes, our formula is crafted with incredibly gentle, non-irritating botanicals. However, pediatric guidelines state that infants under 6 months old should be kept out of direct sunlight entirely. We recommend using our balm as a protective shield alongside protective clothing, hats, and shade. Always perform a patch test on a small patch of skin before full application.
-
Because we use non-nano zinc oxide—which means the mineral particles are large enough not to absorb into the skin or bloodstream—it will leave a light, protective pale layer. This is actually helpful for parents, as it lets you easily see exactly which spots you have covered and which spots you might have missed!
-
Our formula contains exactly 20% non-nano zinc oxide by weight. While boutique, handcrafted batches are not laboratory SPF tested, a 20% zinc concentration generally aligns with an estimated barrier equivalent of SPF 15 to 20.

Yes. Because our recipe is completely water-free and built on a rich base of pure NZ beeswax and shea butter, it naturally repels water and sweat. However, skin friction from swimming, towels, and crawling will wear it down over time. We recommend reapplying at least every 2 hours, or immediately after towel drying.
